Dance Studio Life to Expand to 10
Issues in 2009 |
|
The increase, consisting of
the addition of a February issue, coincides with
the publication’s fourth anniversary. The
full-color magazine, launched in 2004 and
originally called
Goldrush,
evolved from a newsletter of the same
name that Gold began publishing in 1994. The
name was changed to
Dance Studio Life
in 2007 to better reflect the magazine’s purpose
and content.

Several of my students travel 45
minutes to an hour to our school. One mom is willing to
finance a second location for my school so that her
daughter and a few others won’t have to travel to my
current location

On My Mind
|
| By Rhee Gold |
|
“Toy Boy on the left, give me a
real contraction, and keep your feet parallel!” yelled
Gus Giordano during a class at his studio. “Toy Boy” was
either my twin brother, Rennie, or me—Gus could never
tell us apart, so he simply referred to us with that
all-purpose nickname, identifying the object of his
attention at the moment by who was on the right or the
left. That was cool with me, because this man, this
teacher, this legend was bigger than life to me and he
could call me anything he wanted to.

Thinking Out Loud: A Father's Love |
|
By Tony Bougiouris
|
|
A parent’s approval is probably one of the
most natural things for a child to want. But when your dad comes
from a reserved, military-minded Greek family, and when your
chosen path in life is dance, that approval doesn’t come easily

Fathers and Sons: Two Families United
by Dance |
| By Nancy Wozny |
|
How many male dancers can claim to have a
dancing father? Two father/son duos from different parts of the
dance spectrum, the Smiths and the Sarabias, have intriguing
tales, both still in motion and neither ordinary.

| DancingDadz Steal the Show |
|
By Lisa Traiger
They hover, waiting for a daughter’s class to end, eyes not
straying from their BlackBerries® or laptops, ears glued to
their cell phones. The less secure among them circle the parking
lot like blackbirds seeking a roost
